Suzy Murphy
We helped a brilliant artist to step into the limelight with a solo show in London and supporting press campaign

Narrative development, PR strategy and media relations, solo exhibition show opening

Suzy Murphy is an alumna of St Martin’s School of Art, London in 1982. Her work is held in many important public and private collections worldwide. Her images are not just visual representations of observed landscapes, they are also weaved with a personal dialogue and underlying political commentary. Deeply autobiographical, her paintings are better understood as a form of self-portraiture.

Our work with Suzy began in 2016 through NOA where Suzy Murphy won two awards. Though Suzy’s work had received acclaim and she was known to the art world, she had never shown a body of work in a gallery. In 2017 she began the curation of a show with Masters and Contemporary and came to us to help craft the narrative and manage the press relations and the show’s private view, having chosen to maintain a low profile to that point.

Born in London’s East End in 1964 to a young mother and raised by Irish grandparents, Suzy Murphy moved to Alberta, Canada aged five. From occupying a small tenement apartment with her large Irish family to emigrating with her mother to the vast open landscapes of North America, the subsequent emotional shift of being alone was the creative catalyst for the tranquillity and magical realism that informs her work today.

We supported Suzy up to her opening, creating visual press materials and managing the guest list for the private view at which many paintings were bought by collectors. By the end of the gallery show the collection had sold out.
